Progress South Before and After School Clubs 2018-2019



Art Club

Eligible Students: 4th & 5th Grades

We meet after school.

The Art club consists of students who invest time and artistic energy into creating a short, animated  video from their work in class. Everything from painting, sculpting, photography, and script-writing is included in this club experience.

Art Club

Eligible Students: 2nd Grade

We meet before school.

Second grade Art club mostly focuses on creating sculptures.  Students use both upcycled and new materials to create 3D works of art.

Art Club

Eligible Students: 3rd Grade

We meet after school.

We look into different artists and use multiple mediums to explore their style.  Working in groups, and we give positive feedback to each other to build up self- esteem.  Ideas are explored suggestions given to add detail to projects. We work as a team to appreciate art and its place.

Book Club

Eligible Students: 1st Grade

We meet after school.

We get together to share our love of reading.  The meetings consist of reading and discussing our favorite books.  When time allows we will do illustrations connected to the stories we read and write our own stories.

Book Club

Eligible Students: 2nd Grade

We meet before school.

We will discuss the books we are reading and create some form of advertisement to highlight the books to our peers.  The meetings will occur once or twice a month depending on the number of students wanting to participate. You will be notified of the meeting dates and the selected book titles after the applications are processed.  Students are welcome to read the selected books with a parent or partner.

Choir

Eligible Students 4th & 5th Grade

We meet before school.

Let’s Sing!  Choir is open to any or all interested and responsible fourth and fifth grader who enjoys to sing.  We will learn a lot, sing a lot, move a lot and have some fun.

Drama Club

Eligible Students: 3rd Grade

We meet before school.

Are you a drama queen or king?  Do you like reading and performing plays and improvisation?  Drama Club is for you! During the year students will play games, improvise, learn about staging, costumes, how to build sets and perform.  At the end of the school year, there will be a fabulous final performance complete with set and costumes. No experience is necessary but commitment and regular attendance is expected.

Earth Club

Eligible Students: 3rd, 4th, 5th Grades

We meet after school.

Our club members/students make PSE and the earth a better place!  They help their community and educate others about keeping the earth “recycle friendly” through posters and information.  We work in the Outdoor Classroom to pick up, straighten, and clean up areas. We also learn statistics of how long it takes to break down recyclable items… (Ex:500-1,000 years for a plastic bottle, etc.)  We have also started working with ABC Promise Partners, to save plastic lids to trade in for a school bench.

Fiber Club

Eligible Students: 4th & 5th Grades

We meet after school.

Fiber club is not just granola bars!  In this club 4th and 5th grade students learn the basics of the art of Crocheting.  The students learn the chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and how to read a pattern.  They will also learn how to combine their knowledge into a Granny Square. If time allows they also work on beanies that are donated to local hospitals for newborns and premature babies.

Instrumental Club

Eligible Students: 4th & 5th Grades

We meet before school.

Let’s play instruments!  This club is offered to any fourth or fifth graders interested in playing instruments.  We will learn a lot, play a lot, create a lot and have a lot of fun.

Math Club

Eligible Students: 4th & 5th Grades

We meet after school.

Math Club is an opportunity to show off your math skills as you represent Progress South’s top math performers.  Math Club will consist of weekly meetings that will include math games, critical thinking skills, math challenges, and the chance to participate in math competitions.  Practice for these competitions will take place at some of our meetings and on your own. Math Club runs from January thru May.

Media Production Club

Eligible Students: 5th Grade

Our club is unique because we meet every single morning!

Media Production Club is a group of students who use green screen technology to report positive daily announcements each morning via the Positive Eagle Media Youtube channel.  5th grade students use their technology skills to create daily scripts in a google docs. Student also search for media that enhances each days announcements such as videos, images, and gifs.   These students also promote mindfulness by leading a mindful breathing activity to start each morning.

Orchestra

Eligible Students: 4th & 5th Grades

We meet after school.

Do you love music?  Do you want to learn how to play an instrument?  Come join Orchestra Club! Beginners, as well as experienced students are welcome to join.  You will learn new skills, discover your talent, perform and most of all- have FUN!

P.E. Club

Eligible Students: 4th & 5th Grades

We meet before school.

The Physical Education teachers are happy to sponsor P.E. Club for students in the fourth and fifth grade who wish to focus on a lifetime of healthy habits.  In this club, the students will engage in team sports, cooperative problem solving, and critical thinking activities. The club is limited to 20 students. Two clubs are offered to students each semester.  We meet Wednesdays/Fridays mornings.

Robotics Club

Eligible Students: 4th & 5th Grades

We meet after school.

PSE robotics consists of two teams of 4th and 5th grade students who participate in the FLL Lego League of Eastern Missouri.The teams are student-led and research a topic provided by FLL to create a solution and a presentation under the guidelines of the FLL Core values.  They also work together to design, build, and program a robot that will complete the FLL obstacle course in under two minutes.

Science Club

Eligible Students: 3rd, 4th, 5th Grades

We meet after school.

PSE SOARing Scientists Club consists of multiple groups of third, fourth, and fifth grade students experiencing the word of science together.  We dive into a wide range of topics from ecosystems to space science. Students guide lessons with their questioning and conduct experiments, take notes, and engage in a research together to further explore new information.

Sign Language Club

Eligible Students: 3rd, 4th, 5th Grades

We meet before school.

Students will be educated about deaf and hearing impaired individuals and understanding diversity in our school and community.  Students will be introduced to what sign language is, who uses it, and why we need it. We will learn how to sign the alphabet, numbers, colors, months, days, greetings, seasonal vocabulary, food, sports, the Pledge of Allegiance, and much more.  The Sign Language club will be open to interested 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Students will participate in signing the Pledge of Allegiance during the Veterans Day assembly as well as DARE graduation.

Student Council Safety Patrol

Eligible Students: 4th & 5th Grades

We meet after school.

Student Council and Safety Patrol are leadership clubs in our school requiring students go through an application process to be accepted. Student Council is a student government organization and Safety Patrol provides and promotes safety throughout the building.  These clubs organize yearly holiday gram sales, a canned food drive to benefit the school’s food pantry, and participated in Kids Against Hunger to make foods for children overseas. Members also serve as role models and help with school improvement/beautification projects.

Talent Show

Eligible Students: 3rd, 4th, 5th Grades

We meet after school.

Do you have a talent that the school should see?  Come try out for the talent show! Students are allowed in only one act.  Students may work with kids from other classes. Acts no longer than three minutes.  We will provide a cd player, ipod dock, microphone, and piano. School appropriate lyrics.  All acts and costumes must be screened during tryouts. Safety is a priority with props (no skateboards).  No recorders. No gymnastics. This is for fun! No prizes. We meet both before and after school. The Talent show is during school.

Yearbook Club

Eligible Students: 5th Grade

We meet after school.

The Yearbook Club is open to any 5th grader who enjoys taking pictures, is comfortable using the computer, has an imagination and wants to help create a book full of memories for Progress South students.  Students interested should show dedication and responsibility in the production of the yearbook. Learning how to copy, paste, create text boxes, crop pictures, and insert clip art are just a few of the skills that will be used when creating the book full of memories for our family of students.
